Farhaan Akhtar ’s war movie Lakshya , which stars Amitabh Bachchan , Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta in the lead roles, is one of the most eagerly awaited films in Bollywood.

A preview of the soundtrack of the film was held in Mumbai recently where the Army Chief Gen. N C Vij said that the Army is ready to offer assistance to film-makers who wish to make ''serious'' cinema on the armed forces and war.

''There is a need for more serious films on armed forces and wars in India and the Army would help those film-makers making serious cinema. Films being made on the forces should project reality and not make unnecessary fun and mockery of the men in uniform,'' he said.

Recalling films like J P Dutta 's Border and Chetan Anand's Haqeeqat, he said similar movies on the armed forces and wars were necessary and sought the help of Bollywood film-makers.'' Gen. Vij said ''Bridge on the River Kwai'' and ''Saving Private Ryan'' were two of his favourite films produced on War across the world.

''Today the concept of warfare has undergone a sea change. One can watch what is happening on the war-front from their homes,'' he said.

Referring to the 1999 Kargil conflict and the two Gulf Wars and Operation Enduring Freedom he said billions of people had got real-time information about the battles.

Lakshya's script writer Javed Akhtar , whose son Farhan, of Dil Chahta Hai fame, is the director of the film, said he was part of a Bollywood delegation that had gone to the Kashmir valley during the 1999 Kargil conflict and had laid a wreath at the Dras war memorial.

The male lead of the film, Hrithik said: ''A soldier is a true man. When I went to the army posts, many of the armed personnel sought autographs from me, but in fact it was I who should have taken their autographs. They are the real heroes,'' he said.
