There was a time when the mere exposure of a shoulder or midriff was considered sufficiently titillating in Bollywood films. But times have changed.
Following the coming of some bold newcomers in tinsel town and the experimentation of off-the-line themes that were once considered taboo, the exposure of a bare back is becoming quite acceptable by the newly set standards of skin show in films.
Recently we saw Mallika Sherawat flaunting her sylph-shaped bare back in the movie ‘ Murder ’. And we saw Tabu doing the same in Meenaxi.
Comparing these two bare-back-acts, the one that stands out more is the act by Tabu. There is a scene in Meenaxi that shows Tabu lying face downwards on an antique couch, her soft skinned back exposed to the camera. The scene has been aesthetically shot by film’s director M F Hussain.
On the other hand, Mallika’s bare-back-act in ‘Murder’ shows her along with co-star Emraan Hashmi, draped in a white towel while sitting together facing the ocean.
And there is another similar act coming forth by Neha Dhupia in ‘ Julie ’ in which she plays a prostitute.
According to Neha, "bare back have become acceptable" in Bollywood in the course of last few years.
"I don’t think that exposing one’s back is obscene or vulgar by any standards," quips the Dhupia girl.
