“Not many newcomers have an opportunity to play a parallel role in a film with a big star like King Khan in the beginning of their film career,” says Amrita Rao .
Amrita, who plays a college girl in the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Main Hoon Na , adds that the film is her big break. “More importantly, it has come to me at a stage of my career where I needed it the most.”
In an interview she recently gave to a news agency, Amrita said, ''The success of Masti , which makes it my second consecutive hit after Ken Ghosh's Ishq Vishk , has definitely helped me improve my standing in this industry where an actor or actress is, like it or not, still judged by the success or failure of his or her last film and not the performance.”
Amrita’s bohemian look in Farah Khan's Main Hoon Na is the 'talk of film circles'.
The 'pop star kind of look' adorned by Amrita, as well as the 'never-before dresses' worn by her - rock star clothing, kohl eyes and a nose ring - in Main Hoon Na, glimpses of which are visible on television promos of the film, have caught the fancy of the youth.
Talking about her 'much-talked-about' new look in the film, Amrita says, ''In the film I play a character called Sanjana who is a tomboyish college student. Hence the bohemian look to go with the character of Sanjana who wants to be a pop artiste and hence behaves and dresses like them, including putting a lot of 'kajal' in the eyes and a nose ring.''
''It is an unusual kind of look for a traditional Hindi film heroine, a hip-hop look that gells well with the story. In this sense, my character in Main Hoon Na is in sharp contrast to my role in Ken Ghosh's Ishq Vishk where my character was that of a sweet and comely girl.''
No wonder, Amrita is all excited about Main Hoon Na, which releases worldwide on April 30.
