SRK: A flamboyant actor, but straitjacketed in style

In his recently released movie Main Hoon Na , Shah Rukh Khan comes forth as a flamboyant actor, albeit a little predictable in his style of role-playing.

SRK’s acting style is becoming quite predictable to an acute eye. The actor’s style of emoting and his expressions in Farah Khan’s directorial debut are not much different from what we have seen in his performances in earlier movies.

To an appreciator of the art of acting, a good actor is the one who can shed the skin of his own personality, separate himself from his own automatic manifestations and enact a role consciously.

But SRK, it seems, is too overwhelmed by his own superstar persona, that he seems to derive satisfaction out of playing larger than life roles where he comes up as a messenger of love, someone who carries the unspoken wisdom and spreads smiles everywhere. This, in simple terms, can be termed as nothing less than a superstar living in his own vanity.

SRK’s portrayal of Major Ram Prasad Sharma in the movie is convincing, but the actor appears to be getting straitjacketed in his acting style with every film he does. His facial expressions, his body language and that customary glint in his eye are so much similar to the characters he has played in other films. Even his style of dialogue delivery is predicable.

It seems SRK adheres to just one formula of acting – that is flamboyance intermixed with an affected intensity. And this is taking out any surprise element from his acting coz whichever character he plays, he does it in same style, using the limited repertoire of his histrionic skills.
