There is a remarkable similarity between where Abhishek Bachchan is today in his acting career and where his dad Amitabh was some three decades back when his fortunes changed with the role of an angry young man in Zanjeer.
There is a general conception in the industry that Mani Ratnam's Yuva might turn out to be a turning point in Abhishek's career. The starson, so far dogged by a continuous string of flops, may even go to the length of bagging an award for his performance in Yuva.
In the movie Abhishek plays a ruffian named Lallan, a street smart fellow who grew up on the wrong side of the law. A man with his own sense of morality, Lallan believes that his needs are more important than the right and wrongs of life.
Judging by the response of those who have seen the movie, Abhishek is quite a revelation in the film. Even Abhishek's costars in the movie - Vivek Oberoi and Kareena Kapoor - opine that Abhishek has given a spellbinding performance as an angry young man in the film.
Some three decades ago, when Amitabh Bachchan too was struggle to get a firm foothold in the tinsel town it was the role of an angry young cop in Prakash Mehra's Zanjeer that put Amitabh in the league of top stars in Bollywood.
Today, Abhishek too is recovering from a stream of flop films at marquee. The plaudits for his performance in Yuva have already started flowing in. Now, whether this movie would turn the fortunes for the young star, it still remains to be seen.
