SCOOP!! & NEWS Bachchan's special bond with the Dutt family29th June 2004 21.25 IST By Nitika Desai Amitabh Bachchan's bond with the famous Dutt family of Bollywood goes back to more than three decades. In a recent interview to a news agency, when Amitabh Bachchan was asked about his chemistry with Sanjay Dutt , his co-star in recently released Deewar , the superstar got nostalgic and reflected upon the special bond he has shared with the Dutt family for many many years. Bachchan recalled that Sanjay's mother Nargis Dutt was the first person to invite him home to Mumbai. "My mother and she (Nargis) worked together as voluntary medical assistants after the India-Pakistan war. Since my mother was into social causes, she met Nargis Dutt during the course of such work. My mother happened to mention to her that I had applied for the United Producers' talent contest and had been rejected," revealed Big B. Bachchan remembered how Nargis Dutt took it upon herself to get a screen test arranged for him. She asked director Mohan Segal to do his screen test. "When I came to Mumbai I stayed as Sunil and Naris Dutt's house guest...I never forgot their hospitality. Sunil also gave me a role in 'Reshma Aur Shera'. Sanjay, merely nine or 10 then, used to come to the sets and he actually did a role in the film. Every time I felt lost in Mumbai, I'd go across to the Dutts' residence," Bachchan reminisced. Coming back to the present, Bachchan said that he was very fond of Sanjay Dutt and has enjoyed working with him in many films so far. |
