Even though Ram Gopal Verma ’s next movie Jaan Bujh Ke is complete, the filmmaker has aborted the project after the Telugu version of the movie invoked strong protests in Andhra Pradesh.
The film, starring Anil Kapoor , Nandana Sen and Suchitra Pillai, is about a husband who is tired of his forever-nagging wife and kills her in a premeditated way.
The Telugu version of the film Madhyanam Hatya (Midday Murder), starring Amani, Chakravarthi and Priyanka, has angered the women organizations – the council of the Andhra Pradesh Mahila Samakhya and the Progressive Organisation of Women – for its depiction of domestic violence on women.
Confirming the development, Varma is quoted to have said: “I have shelved Jaan Bujh Ke. Because of the subject content and the negative reaction in Andhra Pradesh, we (Anil Kapoor and him) have taken such a step. As a filmmaker I want to attract my audiences, not repel them or spark off more protests.”
Meanwhile, Varma has also been investing in another project titled Galti Se, which has a similar theme but with the difference that the husband in the movie kills his wife accidentally and not deliberately.
