Sonali Bendre ’s first play Aap Ki Soniya, the sequel to the critically acclaimed Tumhari Amrita, will be staged at the Prithvi Theatre in Mumbai on September 28.
It has been almost seven months since Aap Ki Soniya was premiered in Dubai. It has also been staged in Muscat, but not in any Indian city so far because Sonali has been busy with her acting commitments downsouth.
While Tumhari Amrita (starring Shabana Azmi and Farooque Shaikh) was directed by Feroz Khan, Aap Ki Soniya is directed by Salim Arif. Both plays have been written by Javed Siddiqi.
Aap Ki Soniya has Shaikh playing an aging retired governor who gets a barrage of hate mails from a Paris-based girl, played by Sonali.
Sonali minces no words in accepting that she is quite nervous about her theatre debut. An interview quotes her as saying: “When the play was announced, I was frightened. Now I am even more frightened. It is a new medium for me. It’s like I have a responsibility and have to do it well.”
Meanwhile, Bendre is also shooting for the Telugu version of Munnabhai MBBS — Shankardada with Chiranjeevi.
