SCOOP!! & NEWS No item songs for me: Diya21st Sept 2004 10.13 IST By ApunKaChoice Bureau Even as she tries to get out of Her 'A Typical girl-next-door'' image and establish herself as a versatile actor in tinsel town the petite Dia Mirza rules out doing item numbers as a means to further her career in Bollywood as is being done by many of her contemporaries. ''Item songs are a regressive way to attract the audience and I will never do one just for the sake of it,'' said the former Miss Asia Pacific with a steely resolve. 
''I love dancing and would like to dig in roles that give me an opportunity to showcase this talent. But, I am not cutout for item songs,'' she asserted. Diya, who made her debut with Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein (RHTDM) co-starring Madhavan, was in Lucknow to promote her forthcoming release from the Bhatt stable Tumsa Nahin Dekha . The film narrates the story of a striptease dancer (Diya) and a multi-millionaire boy (Emraan), who fall in love and are faced with adverse situations to marry. It is directed by Murder director Anurag Bose, while the Nadeem-Shravan duo have composed the music. The film releases on September 24. Incidentally, Diya has finally shed her girl-next-door image with this film and canned some dare-and-bare shots for the first time. However, she justifies it to the ''need of script.'' ''The film is not about the stripper, but about a simple girl who happens to be a bar dancer. There are shots that may raise some eyebrows, but it was vital for the authenticity of role,'' said the beauty. Diya is equally excited about her forthcoming releases including 'Prateeksha', 'Black Mail' and 'Naam Gum Jayega'. ''I am fortunate that top directors have signed me in the past and given me roles that any newcomer can only dream of,'' she said. Diya also thanked Mahesh Bhatt , who was also present on the occasion, for offering her a ''mature role'' in the film. ''Good lines make a role memorable and I hope this film will stand as a landmark in my career since I have an author-backed character in it,'' she remarked. On her shifting gears with this film, she said life gets boring if you do not play different roles.
