SCOOP!! & NEWS Shahrukh’s heroine in Swades! 30th Sept 2004  20.38 IST By ApunKaChoice Bureau   Ashutosh Gowarikar wanted a fresh face to play the female lead opposite Shah Rukh Khan in his movie Swades . His search ended at the beautiful damsel Gayatri Joshi . Several years ago, Gayatri was voted My Miss India by Sony TV viewers as part of the Miss India beauty contest. But she went unnoticed until she did a Santro commercial with Shah Rukh (in which she played a bride wanting to be taken for a car ride with SRK at the wheel). This ad-film had apparently served as a screen test of sorts for Gowariker to judge the celluloid chemistry between Khan and Joshi. She was eventually cast to play the role of a school teacher in Swades. At the recent music launch of the Swades, Gayatri was the one who was conspicuously missing at the function. It is learnt that Ashutosh wants to keep the heroine of his movie away from shutterbugs so as to keep the audience curiosity alive. Swades is expected to hit the theatres around Diwali time.
