SCOOP!! & NEWS Gudiya's story inspires a movie05th Oct 2004 16.10 IST By Aparajita Ghosh Extraordinary stories of real life sometimes inspire movies. Such is the story of Gudiya, a simple village girl whose happily married life with her second husband came to an end with the return of her first husband, who was believed to have died four years ago. Life, it seems, is not without its sense of irony for Gudiya. She had married Mohammad Arif, an army soldier way back in 1999. But barely 10 days after their wedding, Arif was called for duty on the border by the Indian army. Sadly for Gudiya, Arif did not return and was presumed dead. Three years later, Gudiya married her distant relative Taufiq. 
She was well settled in her second marriage and was pregnant with Taufiq’s son when Arif returned from a Pakistani prison on August 9, this year. Gudiya’s second marriage was declared illegal according to Shariat law by Islamic scholars and clerics, and she was told to go back to her first husband, regardless of her own wish. The story of Gudiya has moved many, particularly ad filmmaker Prabhakar Shukla, who has decided to make a movie titled Kahani Gudiya Ki, with actress Divya Dutta playing the lead role. The male actors of the film are yet to be finalized. The film will have two songs – a theme song and a festival song. Veteran journalist Ashok Humrahi is writing the script.
