Before the premiere of movie ‘ Bride and Prejudice ’ in London, film’s director Gurinder Chadha said that the movie was very much a British-Asian film that incorporates India, England and America.
The ambience at the London's Palladium on Monday was typically Indian, with sidewalls adorned with garlands and decorated in Indian fabrics. Adding to the ambience were a number of Indian dholwalas, who showed their skills on their dhols and charged the atmosphere with their energy.
Gurinder Chadha along with the two leading stars of her film Aishwarya Rai and Martin Hendersen , walked up a pink carpet (rather than the usual red) into the London Palladium. Ash looked graceful in a long, blue outfit and Martin sported a beard and was all dressed in black.
Speaking to the reporters at the venue, Chadha said: "It (the movie) is very true to Jane Austen and the spirit of the book, and I think if she came down and went to see it in her local Odeon (cinema), she would like it.”
‘Bride and…’ is the Indianized adaptation of the Jane Austen classic 'Pride and Prejudice'.
The only difference between the Jane Austen novel and Chadha's story is that while in the original the clash between Darcy and Elizabeth crops due to their social status, but the conflict between Darcy (Martin) and Lalita (Ash) in Chadha's movie is a result of their cross cultures.
