SCOOP!! & NEWS Big B’s birthday promise: To recreate Silsila magic in Babul14th Oct 2004 18.53 IST By Aparajita Ghosh Overwhelmed by gifts from his fans on his 62nd birthday, superstar Amitabh Bachchan reciprocated their adulation with a promise to recreate the magic of his yesteryear movie Silsila in his forthcoming Ravi Chopra film Babul . Even after so many years, the magic of Yash Chopra’s Silsila has not waned. The movie had Bachchan playing a man emotionally torn between his wife ( Jaya Bachchan ) and his estranged lover ( Rekha ). One of the movie’s highlight were the songs Rang Barse, Neela Aasman Kho Gayaand Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum that had Amitabh singing or reciting poetry in his rich baritone.
While Bachchan won’t play a man entangled in love triangle in Babul (he says such roles don’t suit his age now), he promised on his birthday that he will still try to recreate the magic of his films Silsila and Laawaris by singing at least three songs in Ravi Chopra film. Babul has Bachchan playing a man trying to help his widowed daughter-in-law ( Rani Mukherjee ) find a new life after the death of his son ( Salman Khan ). The film has Hema Malini playing Bachchan’s wife. Secretary of the West Bengal chapter of AB Fans' Club Sanjay Patodia, who was part of the four-hour long morning birthday celebration at Bachchan's residence, said that the Big B had assured them of this 'gift' in return for their unabashed adoration over the years.
