Girl from Norway makes a good start in Bollywood

Mahek Chahal , a 24-year-old Norwegian model of Indian origin, has made a good start in Bollywood with two films in her kitty and some item number offers in the pipeline.

Although Mahek comes from a Punjabi family (that migrated to Norway), she considers herself a full-bloodied Norwegian.

"Back home, we speak Norwegian, I think in Norwegian, I studied in a Norwegian-medium school," Mahek told a news agency.

That is why Mahek’s linguistic shortcoming became a problem when she was considered for a role in Ajnabee , two years back. However, she was able to get a Telugu movie titled Neetho, but the director had to get her dialogues dubbed.

Mahek quickly learned from her shortcomings and joined Kishore Namit's acting school in Mumbai, which has groomed newcomers Hrithik Roshan and former beauty queens Priyanka Chopra and Dia Mirza .

A spruced up Mahek made her Bollywood debut last year with a marginal role in a forgettable flick Nayee Padosan. She also did an item number in Kareena Kapoor starrer Chameli .

Currently, Mahek has two new films in her kitty (both have her playing lead roles). The first is director Raj Kaushal’s ‘Two’ and the other is director Hansal Mehta’s ‘Strangers’.

Mahek, who has been doing modeling and dance shows in various countries around the world, says Bollywood fascinated her because she just loves Hindi movies. And because her roots trace back to India, she is confident of making a mark in Bollywood.
