Underworld don Abu Salem's girl friend Monica Bedi, facing an extradition trial from Portugal to India, has written a letter to President A P J Abdul Kalam seeking pardon and cancellation of all criminal proceedings against her initiated by the CBI and giving her a "second chance".
The handwritten letter was received by the President's Secretariat recently seeking pardon for the mistake of forging passport at Hyderabad.
Monica, who has completed her two year sentence in Portugal on September 17 this year and continues to be judicial custody pending extradition case, stated that she was apologetic of her mistake and was also scared to return as this would seal her fate and she would not be able to see her parents settled in Norway.
When contacted, President's spokesman S M Khan confirmed the receipt of the letter and said that it had been sent to Home Secretary and Foreign Secretary "for action as may deem appropriate."
The little-known Bollywood actress, last seen in Jodi No: 1 , was sentenced in Portugal for entering that country on forged documents, had written a similar letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, which has been sent to CBI for its opinion.
The actress said in her letter that Abu Salem had forced her to secure a forged passport and clarified that she had never used it while going out from India or during her stay in Dubai.
