SCOOP!! & NEWS Filmmaker M S Sathyu honored in London19th Nov 2004 11.05 IST By ApunKaChoice Bureau Noted filmmaker M S Sathyu , known for films like Garm Hava and Haqeeqat, has been conferred with a lifetime achievement award by South Asian Cinema Foundation. Describing him as a legendary director, Indian High Commissioner Kamalesh Sharma, presented a specially crafted silver plate and a shawl to 74-year-old Sathyu for his "creative excellence" at a ceremony at Nehru Centre in London last night. 
'Garm Hava' which won him the award is a seminal film on Partition based on a story by noted Indian Urdu writer Ismat Chughtai and scripted by noted poet Kaifi Azmi and Sathyu's wife Shama Zaidi. "Thirty years on, it is unmatched and refuses to date. With Balraj Sahni at his best, it is honest, powerful and moving without resorting to any cinematic gimmicks. We feel obligated to honour this timeless classic," Lalit Mohan Joshi, Editor of South Asian Cinema, said on the occasion. 'Garm Hava' depicts the bruised psyche and dilemmas of Indian Muslims after Partition. Without being loud, violent or didactic, the film questions the partition of India.
