SCOOP!! & NEWS Curtains to go down on ‘Bombay Dreams’ at Broadway09th Dec 2004 18.25 IST By ApunKaChoice Bureau On the new year’s day, curtains will go down on the American production of the British hit show ‘Bombay Dreams’ after a rather disappointing run at the Broadway. The show, conceived by Shekhar Kapoor and Andrew Lloyd Webber, is directed by Steven Pimlott. It had a two-year run in London and opened at Broadway on April 29 this year.
The American version features Tamyra Gray of "American Idol" fame. Anthony Van Laast and Farah Khan have choreographed the show that has music by A R Rahman and lyrics by Don Black. People who have seen both the version of the play say that there was little chemistry between Gray and lead actor Manu Narayan, as compared to Gray's predecessor Anisha Nagarajan. According to the estimates, the show has not yet been able to recoup its 14 million dollar investment and will close on Broadway on Jan 1 2005. The New York producers of Bombay Dreams say they have plans to take it on the road.
