SCOOP!! & NEWS Padma Lakshmi to star in film on Rushdie’s story10th Dec 2004 18.48 IST By Aparajita Ghosh Padma Lakshmi and hubby Salman Rushdie are in Kolkata where they announced plans for a film to be made on a story written by Rushdie. A clean-shaven Rushdie and resplendent looking Padma were breezing with buoyancy and good humor while mingling with elite crowd in Kolkata. 
Padma disclosed her plans to produce two films, the first of which would be based on a short story by Rushdie. The short story is a tale of perverse love between an Indian man and an American woman. However, a few changes would be made in the movie. “The movie will be about the relationship between an Indian man and a woman who comes from Indian background but was raised in America and therefore knows little about the country of her birth,” Rushdie said while talking about the movie. Padma herself will be playing the woman of Indian diaspora in the film. Padma also said that she is coming out with her next cooking book soon. |
