SCOOP!! & NEWS ATHWS is not anti-Pak: Bachchan23rd Dec 2004 22.13 IST By ApunKaChoice Bureau On the eve of release of director Anil Sharma’s film Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo , its star Amitabh Bachchan dispelled the notion that the movie is anti-Pak in tone. It is a mere coincidence that Sharma’s ATHWS is Bachchan’s second film in row in which he plays a Punjabi character. He was seen playing Shahrukh’s foster Punjabi father in Veer Zaara and now in ATHWS, he plays a senior soldier. 
Speaking about the movie in an interview to a website, Bachchan dispelled the popular notion that ATHWS is an anti-Pak movie, just like Anil Sharma ’s previous jingoistic flicks. “It spreads a message of peace between India and Pakistan,” Bachchan said, adding that it was necessary on the part of the people of both countries to acknowledge the similarities between them and bury the animosity that has kept them divided for more than half century. “We have the same culture. We are the same people. Enmity between the two countries must not prevail. This film also says there are certain outside elements that try to disturb peace between the two countries,” Bachchan is quoted to have said. Besides Amitabh, ATHWS also stars Akshay Kumar , Bobby Deol , Kapil Sharma and Divya Khosla. ATHWS is also Bachchan and Akshay’s fourth film together. They are working together in two more forthcoming Bollywood projects. |
