SCOOP!! & NEWS Sikhs miffed at disrespect to Gurbani in Bollywood movie25th Dec 2004 18.00 IST By ApunKaChoice Bureau A sequence in Anil Sharma’s latest movie Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo has angered the Sikh community. ATHWS is a jingoistic flick with Amitabh Bachchan playing a Sikh character. 
According to an agency report, Sikhs from the apex body Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) say they are miffed with an advertisement of a liquor company while a religious verse was being recited in the film. The said sequence in the film shows Bachchan’s character Amarjeet Singh reciting verses from Gurbani while a whiskey advertisement is shown running in the backdrop. Jaswinder Singh, Advocate of the SGPC, expressed anger at the sequence: “At the same time Gurbani is being recited and on the other hand they are showing a liquor ad, a thing, which is completely prohibited in our religion. We Sikhs are hurt by such portrayal.” The SGPC has reportedly lodged a complaint with the police and have threatened to start an agitation if the objectionable part was not removed from the film. Jaswinder Singh said the complaint was filed against film's director Anil Sharma , Sony Entertainment Channel and the liquor company demanding action against them. Besides Amitabh, ‘ATHWS’ also stars Akshay Kumar , Bobby Deol and newcomer Divya Khosla . |
