Sex popped out of the closet and came to the Bollywood silver screen in 2004, thanks to the brigade of new uninhibited babes in skimpy clothes.

Gone are the times when the camera would pan into the fireplace in a scene showing an intimate moment between the hero and heroine. The shots of two birds locking their beaks or two roses meeting are now a thing of the past. The new bold belles of Bollywood don’t flinch in kissing before the camera nor do they shy in taking off their clothes until the very bare minimum is left, enough to titillate a viewer.

Breaking the shackles of the past, Bollywood doled out a good number of skin flicks this year. The very first hit of the year, Murder , saw Mallika Sherawat playing an adulterous wife. The movie featured a good number of ‘bed scenes’ between Mallika and actor Emraan Hashmi .

Mallika, who takes pride in her sex appeal, is quite outspoken about the need for our society to transgress the orthodox mindset and accept sex as a natural part of life. “After all, we come from the land of Kamasutra,” is her rationale.

Standing in equal stead to Mallika is Neha Dhupia who played a prostitute in the skin flick Julie . A former Miss India, Neha showed a natural flair for exposure with her bare-back scenes and she looked very comfortable in intimate scenes with her co-stars in the film.

The brigade of bold belles further grew with the coming of Payal Rohatgi and Meghna Naidu -- the two nimble, voluptuous divas breezing with sex appeal.

Payal should be given some extra credit for playing the role of a teacher who gets ‘skin-to-skin’ with one of her students in Tauba Tauba . In the movie, Payal and another girl Monalisa, really set new standards of skin exposure, giving an eyeful of shots in bikinis.

Lesbianism was explored in Girlfriend in which Isha Koppikar and Amrita Arora played two friends who get sexually attracted to each other. Sadly, the movie fizzled out at the box office despite the convincing portrayal of homosexuality by the two sensuous belles.
