After a long hiatus, Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan is back in Mumbai, with his bi-lingual home production ''Mumbai Xpress'' and says comedy is a serious business, like a ''dangerous tight ropewalk".

Talking to reporters on the sets of the film being shot in suburban Mumbai, Kamal who has donned humorous roles in films like Chachi 420 , ''Pushpak'', and ''Appu Raja'', says , ''I am most uncomfortable with comedy. I don't take comedy lightly. It is difficult to make people laugh.''

The star explained that in ''Mumbai Xpress'', none of the characters can be called comedians. It is a movie that would be a pleasure to watch. ''It is a sort of an aerial view of the Metropolitan India. When one enters Mumbai, what sees is hectares of slums covered all around with tall buildings. This movie is not making fun of Mumbai but saluting the city.''

Kamal said Mumbai is an inspiration in its own capacity and it deserves all praise and criticism as well.

He rejected the contention that the Mumbai film industry is unprofessional or indisciplined as compared to the Tamil film industry. ''This is not true. There are pros and cons about the work structure at both places. What matters is genuinity and teamwork,'' he said.

The veteran actor also did not agree that the Mumbai film industry did not give him his due as an artiste. ''Nobody gives you your due. You have to earn it and spend time to collect it. I was busy doing that in Tamil Nadu,'' he said.

He said, ''Nobody is a perfectionist. As far as I am concerned, I try to excel in every project of mine and not try to be different. ''The star said like the audience, he, too, needed as much diversion to break away from the regular mould.

''Mumbai Xpress'' also stars Manisha Koirala , Om Puri and Vijay Raaz among others in the Hindi version, while Manisha is retained in the Tamil film. Kamal has written the Tamil script and the Hindi dialogues are written by Saurabh Shukla. The film is directed by Singeetham Srinivasa Rao who has worked with Kamal in ''Pushpak'' and ''Appu Raja'.

Kamal plans to release ''Mumbai Xpress'' in April 2005.

He said he plays a stuntman in the film who is known as Mumbai Xpress. ''The film is a different genre of humour. We make films to make life enjoyable for people. They would surely appreciate the film,'' he said.
