SCOOP!! & NEWS Vivek becomes real hero for the tsunami-stricken10th Jan 2005 20.34 IST By ApunKaChoice Bureau Relief and rehabilitation work is going at full hilt in the tsunami-devastated Devanampattinam village adopted by the Bollywood star Vivek Oberoi . Less than a fortnight after the killer wave struck Devanampattinam, the south Indian village is abuzz with activity with a community kitchen serving meals four times a day and students from local polytechnic and women's college working day long to clear the debris.
The credit for the incredible support that this village has received from all quarters is being given to Vivek, who, along with his father Suresh Oberoi and family spiritual guide Swami Chidanand Saraswati Maharaj, has done considerable work to alleviate the suffering of the people affected by the tsunami. Owing to the support given by Vivek, the village is seeing a steady stream of ‘volunteers’ and people interested in donating relief materials. The village has also captured the fancy of private organizations, corporate houses and NGOs. “It is true that a filmstar will obviously attract more attention, I am trying to use my stature for constructive purposes,” Vivek reportedly said. “These people are too shocked by what happened to think of anything else. I am trying to bring them hope.
