SCOOP!! & NEWS Punjabi movies in UK19th Jan 2005 20.12 IST By Aparajita Ghosh Punjabi films appear to be catching the fancy of movie buffs in the UK, lately. Over the period of last few months, Punjabi films like Jee Aaya Nu and Asa Nu Maan Watana Da (starring singer-turned actor Harbhajan Maan) have proved to be crowd pullers at cine theatres in the UK.
And last Friday (14th Jan) saw the release of Gurdaas Mann and Juhi Chawla starrer Des Hoyaa Pardes . Des Hoyaa Pardes depicts the suffering of hundreds of people in Punjab who became victims of the social unrest and discrimination in the 1980s. Set in the Punjab of 1980s when terrorist activities were going on in the state, Des Hoyaa Pardes tells the tale of a family comprising of a young son Gurshan (Mann), his mother, father and a bubbly sister Guddi (played by Divya Dutta). Gurshan is a humble farmer who is content in earning his livelihood by tilling his land. The wave of social unrest and increasing violence in Punjab has its effects on the family too. Gurshan gets married to Jassi (Juhi Chawla) and the old wounds of the family begin to heal with time. But then comes the fateful night and the ominous knock on the door after which the entire course of the family changes. The well-knit family of Gurshan is forced to separate and young Guddi’s dreams remain unfulfilled. The 2-hr-47-min film captures the raw beauty of the Punjab life and also highlights the pain and suffering of people as they search for a better life abroad. The film is directed by Manoj Punj. | CRICKET ZONE Live Cricket Coverage Song Lyrics ALSO READ scoop ~ The Bachchans dazzle at Cannes Film Fest ~ Shah Rukh Khan smiles at Aamir's jibe ~ Sonal Chauhan said 'no' to wearing bikini ~ Emraan Hashmi bowled over by Pakistani girls ~ Irrfan Khan learns the art of cutting hair ~ Sonam Kapoor denies being offered role opposite Shah Rukh Khan ~ When consciousness of Aishwarya and Abhishek were used by Varma ~ Duel of debutants on the fourth of July ( more in scoop ) happenings ~ Amitabh Bachchan goes down memory lane ~ 'Bhoothnath' now showing in Pakistan too ( more in happenings ) AKC HOT INDEX ECARDS > New Year, Diwali, Birthday, Valentines, Love, Christmas MOVIES Bhoothnath, Jimmy, Anamika, Mr. White Mr. Black, Tashan, U Me Aur Hum, Race, Jodhaa Akbar, Taare Zameen Par, Krazzy 4, Sarkar Raj , Jannat , Woodstock Villa , Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic MUSIC Tashan , U Me Aur Hum celebs» the celeb A-Z who's in » Katrina Kaif | Rani Mukherjee | Aishwarya Rai | Gayatri Joshi | Mallika Sherawat | Bipasha Basu | Preity Zinta | Priyanka Chopra | Kajol | Neha Dhupia | Kareena Kapoor | Shahrukh Khan | Salman Khan | Aamir Khan | Hrithik Roshan | Akshay Kumar | Vivek Oberoi | Sameera Reddy | Juhi Chawla | Sneha Ullal | John Abraham | Karisma Kapoor | Zayed Khan | Saif Ali Khan | Madhuri Dixit | Zeenat Aman | Payal Rohatgi | Abhishek Bachchan | Lisa Ray | Dimple Kapadia | Ayesha Takia | Dia Mirza | Sushmita Sen | Amisha Patel | Esha Deol | Amitabh Bachchan | Meghna Naidu | Amrita Rao | Arjun Rampal | Mahima Chaudhary | Amrita Arora | Vidya Balan | Raima Sen | Riya Sen | Rekha | Rakhi Sawant | Rimi Sen | Bhumika Chawla | Nigar Khan | Tanushree Dutta | Yana Gupta | Deepal Shaw | Shilpa Shetty | Celina Jaitley | Deepika Padukone | Ranbir Kapoor | Sonam Kapoor | more... |
