SCOOP!! & NEWS ‘Little Terrorist’ – From ragpicking to Oscars25th Feb 2005 09.35 IST By ApunKaChoice Bureau Call it a Cinderella story or a rags-to-riches from a typical Bollywood potboiler. Almost overnight the glare of media spotlight is on Salim, the 13-year-old protagonist of film-maker Ashwin Kumar's Little Terrorist and the slightly dazed boy is trying to come to terms with this "sudden fame." The magnitude of the situation is yet to sink in and the Delhi boy who until a year ago was begging in the slums of Jahangirpuri says he has to "cut and shape his entire life to fit into a future that promises to be bright". 
However, survival on the streets has given him enough caution to acknowledge the fickleness of fame and Salim says he has to gear up for what comes, like never before. "I did not think on this scale before...I had no idea what 'Oscar' was. Thought it would be something good. And when people saw my film and said it might get a nomination I laughed it off," says Salim. "I didn’t know then what it means to go to the Oscars. My life was totally different. I have so much to do now. First I have to learn English," he adds with a smile. The results are uncertain and he is learning how to speak to press, but often he betrays the child in him by enthusiastically gushing on "whoever thought I'll act in a film! I have another film lined up with Ashwin sir."
