SCOOP!! & NEWS Shahrukh, Rani win Filmfare awards27th Feb 2005 14.15 IST By ApunKaChoice Bureau Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukherjee walked away with 'Best Actor' awards at the SGI 50th Filmfare awards at a star-studded function in Mumbai last night. Yash Chopra-directed Veer Zaara beat back the challenge from others to bag the 'Best Film' award while Kunal Kohli-directed Yashraj Films' Hum Tum swept five awards including the 'Best Director' award.
It was Kohli's first Filmfare award. Besides, Saif Ali Khan won 'Best Actor in a Comic role' for the same movie. Shah Rukh, who will be turning 40 this November, and Rani collected the awards for their performances in much-acclaimed Swades and Hum Tum respectively. Veer Zaara was Yash Chopra's first movie directed after a gap of almost seven years. His production house won three more awards. For Rani, it was a grand double as the famed awards entered the golden jubilee year this year. She had won the 'Best Supporting Actress' award for Yuva . It was also a double treat for Mani Ratnam-directed 'Yuva' as Abhishek Bachchan also won the 'Best Supporting Actor' award. Javed Akhtar , Alka Yagnik and Kunal Ganjawala also picked awards. Akhtar, who recently turned 60, was adjudged the 'Best Lyricist' for 'Veer Zaara'. He became the second person in the Filmfare awards where all five nominations were for his lyrics. Alka Yagnik and Kunal Ganjawala were adjudged the 'Best Playback Singers' for the films 'Hum Tum' and Murder . For Alka Yagnik, it was her seventh award. Sony Golden Glory awards went to evergreen actors Dev Anand and Rekha .
