SCOOP!! & NEWS No Holi celebrations for Bachchans this year24th Mar 2005 19.27 IST By Aparajita Ghosh The famous Bachchans of Bollywood are known for their Holi bash every year. But this year’s celebrations have been cancelled for an apt reason. Pratiksha, the Bachchans’ bungalow in Mumbai's northwestern suburb Juhu, will not see the razzmatazz of this year’s Holi, the spring festival of colors.
Reason? Bachchans don’t find it befitting to celebrate when the nation and the entire world is just emerging from last year’s tsunami disaster that took thousands of lives and left millions homeless. Reports quote Amitabh Bachchan as saying: “There won’t be any celebrations this year because of the devastations caused by the Tsunami... Celebrations seem out of place when Nature has played such a cruel joke on people.” The Holi bash at Bachchans every year sees the coming together of film stars, politicians and businessmen. Artists from rural areas are also invited to sing and perform during the celebrations. And Bachchan’s famous Holi songs Rang Barse and Hori Khele Raghuveera are also played. Both Amitabh and his son Abhishek Bachchan have already done a good deal to help raise money for the tsunami relief. And now the cancellation of the Holi bash comes forth as a gesture of solidarity and condolence.
