SCOOP!! & NEWS ‘The Namesake’ shooting begins in New York30th Mar 2005 19.00 IST By AKC Bureau The shooting has begun for Mira Nair’s next film ‘The Namesake’ in New York. The film, based on the novel by Jhumpa Lahiri, recounts the tale of Indian expatriates in the US. Playing the leading roles in the film are Irfaan Khan , Tabu , Kal Penn and a five-year-old child artist Soham. 
Mira Nair is quoted as saying this about her film: “The Namesake encompasses in a deep humane way the tale of millions of us who have left one home for another, who have known what it means to combine the old ways with the new world, who have left the shadow of our parents to find ourselves for the first time.” Major portions of the film will be shot in the US and Kolkata in India. The screenplay of the film has been adapted from Lahiri’s novel by Sooni Taraporevala.
