Ajay Devgan and Bobby Deol starrer Tango Charlie has been banned in the northeastern Indian state of Assam because the movie shows their Bodo community in bad light.
According to a PTI report the Assam government has decided to ban the screening of ‘Tango Charlie’. The film shows model Kelly Dorjee playing a Bodo militant who mercilessly slays his hostages and Indian soldiers.
The film, which was released recently, has raised the hackles of the Bodo community which feels that some of its members have been portrayed in poor light in the movie.
The Advisor of All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) Rabiram Narzary has demanded a ban on the film along with an apology from the Director Mani Shankar and its producer for 'slandering' the Bodo people.
Narzary claimed that film revolved around Manipur, but refers to Bodo militancy and shows a Bodo militant (Dorjee) cutting off the ears of a hostage and gifting it to his girlfriend.
Concerned about the issue, the state government decided to ban the film which was yet to be released in the North East though its pirated video CDs were available. Official sources said today that the ban will extend also to the viewing of VCDs of the film in the state.
