SCOOP!! & NEWS ‘Greed’ and ‘Lust’ of Mumbai Xpress14th Apr 2005 18.00 IST By AKC Bureau The raunchy item number featuring two hotties Rakhi Sawant and Mun Mun in Kamal Haasan’s Mumbai Xpress has come under censor scissors. Mumbai Xpress may hit the theatres on April 15 (in south) without the steamy number because the Censor Board found Rakhi Sawant and Mun Mun as too hot for the audience.
Defending the presence of the song in his film, Kamal Haasan asserts that the two belles are not in the film for titillation. “They play two sisters named Greed and Lust who live in the biggest slum of Asia” (an allusion to Mumbai). While Kamal agrees that Rakhi and Munmun are skimpily dressed in the movie, he claims that it still won’t put the cinegoers in frenzy, given the level of exposure in films nowadays. He says the two girls are merely dressed as trapeze dancers who play sutradhars in the story. Haasan considers the forced deletion of the song from his film as an infringement of his rights and will re-apply for a censor certificate and even talk to censor chief Sharmila Tagore. Meanwhile, there is trouble brewing in the south for ‘Mumbai Xpress’. Certain groups have objected to the presence of ‘the English word’ (Express) in the film’s title. The agitators have defaced the vinyl hoardings used in the publicity of the film.
