The movie, directed by Vipul Shah, looks at the father-son relationship from a new perspective. Bachchan plays the father while Akshay Kumar plays the son. Priyanka Chopra plays Akshay’s love interest who later becomes his wife.
About his character in the film, Bachchan says that while the role was not challenging, still “any father will connect to the character.” Bachchan also praised director Vipul Shah for his sensitive handling of the subject.
In Waqt Bachchan plays a business tycoon who wants his easy-going son to become a responsible person. To this end, he is compelled to take a dire step and expel his son from the house. A rift appears in the ‘friendly’ relation between the father and the son. But in the end, when the son stands on the brink of becoming a self-dependent man who can support his family, the truth behind his father’s action is revealed to him.
Waqt stars Vipul Shah’s wife Shefali as Bachchan’s onscreen wife.
Amitabh and Akshay also acted together in Shah’s first film Aankhen , which was based on an entirely different theme.
During his recent visit to New York where the retrospective of his films was held, Bachchan also took out time to promote Waqt among the movie buffs in the US.
