Actors Sanjay Suri and Shilpa Shetty were among the Bollywood celebrities spreading awareness about AIDS among the people of the Northeast India.
Bollywood celebrities descended on Shillong, the Meghalaya capital, for a three-day AIDS awareness campaign that began on April 21 and concluded on Saturday.
During the campaign there were special screenings of films Phir Milenge (starring Shilpa) and the recently released My Brother Nikhil (starring Sanjay Suri). Both films dealt with the issue of AIDS in different ways.
Also present during the films’ screening, and the campaign, were their directors Revathy and Onir.
Organized by the Assam Rifles Wives Welfare Association, the campaign also featured a question-and-answer session during which the celebrities answered questions from students.
Shilpa Shetty emphasized the importance of protected sex to the youngsters and said: “use condoms for safe sex”. Sanjay Suri, on the other hand, appealed that AIDS be treated a disease and not “a moral issue”.
