Ash on Oprah Winfrey show

Aishwarya Rai made a not too impressive appearance on the Oprah Winfrey show on Tuesday.

Dressed in black, Ash looked suave and beautiful. Oprah, on the other hand, donned a purple shaded sari brought by Ash. But as the two began to chat, Ash came forth as a woman of affectations and politically correct answers.

Even if we excuse her giggles that are an automatic part of her personality, it would be hard to overlook the absence of wit, humor and intelligence from a woman who has traveled far and wide and has presumably seen much in life.

While Ash looked more prepared and poised for the Oprah show than she was for the Letterman show, there was nothing exceptional in her answers, which she so carefully delivered in an accent that reeked of superficiality.

This she made herself apparent when she was asked: "What misconception do people have about Indian woman." Ash's answer was: "People are surprised by my accent and English."

When Oprah complimented Ash by saying "I think you're gorgeous. When you look at yourself, do you see that?" Ash's reply was quite plain. She said: "To me, beautiful is as beautiful does. I think that's what speaks volumes."

To the questions regarding Indian family system, Ash's stand was the same as before. She said in India a person was considered "a loser" if one left one's family.

There were also moments in the chat when Ash sounded confident and self-assured, but those were few and far between.
