Lara Dutta recounts Kaal adventure

The cast and the crew of the movie Kaal spent more than six weeks in the wilderness of Jim Corbett National Park while making the film. Lara Dutta recounts those days of living on the edge.

It was unlike any other film they had worked on before. Living in the shadow of a jungle away from the hustle and bustle of cities, shooting with 12-foot tigers, having narrow escapes, lighting bonfires and Kaal has been quite a life-changing experience for its stars Vivek Oberoi , Lara Dutta, John Abraham , Esha Deol and Ajay Devgan .

The film is a murder mystery set in a wildlife sanctuary.

Shooting for the movie in Jim Corbett National Park was quite hectic – from 6 in the morning to 5 in the evening. Later on, at night, the crew and the cast would light up bonfires, have barbeques and play table tennis.

The shooting especially took its toll on Lara Dutta who had her leg in a cast because of a torn muscle.

A report quotes Lara as saying: “I was popping four-five painkillers from the first day just to get through the day. I was in a lot of pain in those days. I would remove the cast for the shot, and then put it back.”

Lara remembers one incident when she was shooting on a river and the bridge collapsed. She and her co-star dived into the freezing water.

Another incident Lara recalls is when they were in an open Gypsy with a tiger.

“The tiger ripped out the entire seat of the Gypsy in a single bite and ran away with it,” Lara recounts.

Although the film’s actors had many close shaves with the tigers, thankfully none of them was hurt. In one incident, however, one of the trainers who was playing Ajay's duplicate, was attacked and sustained minor injuries.

Kaal is a joint production venture by Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar . The movie will hit the theatres on April 29.
