Aishwarya Rai has consented to play the lead role in director Jagmohan Mundhra’s film ‘Provoked’ that narrates a true tale of a traumatized woman.
‘Provoked’ is the true story of a Punjabi woman named Kiranjit Ahluwalia, who went to the UK to marry a London-based guy. But her marriage turned out to be a nightmare and she ended up in prison for murdering her husband.
The movie is based on a true case that brought about amendments in the law on crimes of passion in the UK. Besides Ash, the film also stars Naveen Andrews, Jimmy Mistry, Nandita Das and Miranda Richardson.
‘Provoked’ will be shot in a period of two months (May-June) with a start-to-finish schedule in London. The film is being produced by Dr. Murli, a friend of Aishwarya.
What Ash found interesting in the movie’s story is that “the woman eventually finds justice within her horrific circumstances.”
Ash’s character in the film goes through many shades – from optimism to the dashing of hopes, the trauma of a failed marriage, insult, shock, vengeance, desperation and anger.
In the past, director Jagmohan Mundhra has made two hard-hitting films that raised the issue of traumatized women. ‘Provoked’ will complete his trilogy on the subject.
