SCOOP!! & NEWS ‘Munnabhai MBBS’ to be ‘Gangsta MD’ in Hollywood13th May 2005 18.45 IST By Aparajita Ghosh We have heard about the Indian remakes of Hollywood movies. Now we can boast of at least one Bollywood flick that is being remade in Hollywood. Munnabhai MBBS , the movie that tickled the bones of many and discovered an ace comedian in Arshad Warsi , is going to be remade in English by the 20th Century Fox. 
The Hollywood version, believed to be titled ‘Gangsta MD’, will have foreign star cast. It will most likely be directed by Mira Nair, who is based in the US. It is also learnt that Munnabhai MBBS producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra would be part of the production team for the Hollywood version. He may also be part of the distribution network in India. Munnabhai MBBS stars Sanjay Dutt as a local goon Munnabhai, who enters the medical world by crook to fulfill the dream of his father (who wants to see his son as a doctor) and to woo a girl named Chinki (Gracy Singh). While still a student, Munnabhai begins to offer unconventional remedies like jaddo ki japphi (magical hug) to the patients. Surprisingly, his remedies work very well and Munnabhai becomes a loved one of everyone in the hospital. The film stars Sunil Dutt as Sanju’s father.
