Hardly has the controversy about the use of tigers for Kaal boiled down, new allegations are now leveled at Shah Rukh Khan’s film production company Red Chillies Entertainment.
People in Defence of Animals (PIDA) has issued a notice to SRK’s company for alleged abuse of camels during the shooting of his forthcoming film Paheli .
Paheli is a movie set in rural landscape of Rajasthan and many camels were used to create the authentic setting of a village during the film’s shoot.
PIDA alleges that eyewitnesses to the film’s shooting claim that the camels were mistreated and severely whipped many times for getting some shots right.
In an interview recently, Shah Rukh Khan had himself accepted that the team had a tough time shooting with camels for a race sequence because they would not move according to the instruction. However, he had denied any torture being done to the animals.
Just a few weeks back, SRK’s company was in the spotlight for shooting in Jim Corbett National Park without permission for director Soham’s movie Kaal. Later, it turned out that SRK’s company indeed had the permission from authorities and the portions showing tigers in the film were not shot in India but in Thailand.
Paheli is a rural story in which SRK plays a ghost who falls for a lovelorn woman abandoned by her husband. Rani Mukherjee plays the female lead in the movie. National award winning filmmaker Amol Palekar has directed the film.
