Yet another brick has been laid to uplift the Indo-Pak cultural exchange. Mahesh Bhatt’s movie Nazar , that stars Pakistani actress Meera , will become the first Indian film to be released on Pakistani TV.
The film, directed by Bhatt’s wife Soni Razdan, will have its theatrical release on May 20. Nine days after that, on May 29, the film will be shown on the channels of Aaj TV, one of the biggest private television networks in Pakistan.
Speaking to a news agency about the development, Mahesh Bhatt said: “We yesterday inked a deal with Aaj TV wherein ‘Nazar’ - the first Indo-Pak joint film production in 50 years - will be shown on their channels from May 29 to June 4.”
Stressing the importance of films in bringing the people of the two countries together in a common bond of friendship, Bhatt said: “It (Nazar) is the first brick laid by us in the long path of Indo-Pak people-to-people exchanges.”
Bhatt is already in Pakistan to participate in a telethon on Aaj TV.
Meanwhile, Nazar’s hero Ashmit Patel has reportedly been denied visa to Pakistan. Officials allege that the application for Patel’s visa was not moved forward through proper channels.
Mahesh Bhatt is scheduled to meet Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on May 21. There is likelihood that he will speak to Mr. Aziz about the issue.
