SCOOP!! & NEWS Akshay in the remake of ‘Don’ 23rd May 2005  10.02 IST By ApunKaChoice Bureau   After playing a pampered son in Waqt – A Race Against Time , reports are that Akshay Kumar is gearing up to play a very interesting character in the remake of the Amitabh Bachchan - Zeenat Aman 1978 superhit action flick – Don . To be directed by Farhan Akhtar , the remake of ‘Don’ will star Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra in the lead roles and Akshay is said to have been finalized for the role that the great actor Pran played in the original – Jasjeet or JJ. In a start to finish schedule, the film will be shot between February and June 2006 and Farhan himself says that Bachchan will not do any cameo in the remake. He says, “It would be too gimmicky. Besides, Don isn’t an archival classic like Devdaas . Don is familiar to today’s generation. I don’t want to aggravate the comparisons by getting Mr. Bachchan into my remake of Don.” On the onus of delivering a remake of a masterpiece, Farhan said, “Comparisons are bound to happen. That won’t deter me from making Don the way I want to. I don’t want my Don to look foolish, as I feel more people will come to watch my remake just to compare it with the old one.” The question is will SRK be as good as Bachchan (both as Don and Vijay), Priyanka as hot as Zeenat and Akshay as versatile as Pran? Only time will tell.
