SCOOP!! & NEWS Urmila promotes Naina, deplores controversy24th May 2005 19.00 IST By Aparajita Ghosh Following the release of her movie Naina, actress Urmila Matondkar has been on a whirlwind tour to promote the film. Last few days have been quite hectic for Urmila. After Naina’s premiere in Mumbai on Thursday, she went to Bangalore and then visited Delhi on Saturday to promote the movie and to clear the “misconception” that the film sends out a wrong message about cornea transplant. 
Naina has Urmila playing a girl who regains her eyesight after a cornea transplant operation. However, after the operation she begins to see dead people. The All India Opthalmological Society (AIOS) has alleged that the film would discourage people from making or accepting eye donations. The AIOS has also filed public interest litigations (PIL) in Mumbai and Delhi High Courts demanding a ban on screening of the film. While on a visit to a cinema hall in New Delhi, Urmila told media-persons that such allegations were baseless. “I categorically deny the allegations. They are baseless. There is nothing like that in the film,” she said. “I have always worked for social causes. I'll never like to do anything that is against the society or social good. I think it would be far better if people take positive approach and try to create awareness in the society with the help of an artist like me,” she said. Urmila also added that people should learn to distinguish between fiction and reality. After Delhi, Urmila went to Jaipur (Rajasthan) to promote Naina. |
