Some Sikhs in the UK are upset at the conduct of crew members of Jagmohan Mundhra’s movie ‘Provoked’ while shooting inside a gurudwara in London.
‘Provoked’ is based on the true story of Kiranjit Ahluwalia, a Punjabi NRI woman in Britain who killed her husband after suffering a decade of physical torture at his hands. She was convicted for murder and imprisoned for life, but after three years British courts pardoned her and annulled her sentence.
A few portions of ‘Provoked’ were recently shot at the Ramgharia gurudwara in London. Actress Aishwarya Rai , who plays Kiranjit in the film, was also present at the Gurudwara.
It was during the shooting, a few Sikh worshipers complained that some of the film’s crew where walking inside the holy place with their shoes on and their heads uncovered.
A complaint was reportedly registered with the gurudwara authorities and local Sikh councilors.
However, Jagmohan Mundhra, the film’s director, alleges that the men who desecrated the holy place were not his crew members but people who pretended to be a part of the shooting team because they wanted autographs from Aishwarya Rai and Naveen Andrews (who plays her husband in the film).
‘Provoked’ also stars Nandita Das , Miranda Richardson and Jimmy Mistry.
