What kind of don will Shahrukh be!

The don of the 1970s is definitely quaint in comparison with the contemporary times. Wait to see Shah Rukh Khan playing a modern-day, gadget-friendly don in filmmaker Farhan Akhtar’s remake of the Amitabh Bachchan classic.

Farhan Akhtar is ready to pay his personal homage to “one of the coolest films of Mr. Bachchan” – ‘Don’, which was directed by Chandra Barot in 1970s. The memory of that slick flick still resonates in the minds of those who have grown up watching Mr. Bachchan’s films. Farhan and SRK are two of them.

In Karan Johar’s last episode of ‘Koffee With Karan’, Shahrukh was asked which role of Amitabh Bachchan would he like to replay? Shahrukh answered without any second thought – “Don”.

Early next year, Farhan will begin shooting for his ‘Don’ that will star Shahrukh in the twin role of the don and the village bumpkin Vijay.

However, keeping with the present times, this don will be a gadget friendly character.

“My ‘Don’ will be gadget-friendly for sure, though I won't overdo the gizmos. We've to keep in mind the technological advancement since (the original) ‘Don’ was released. For instance, mobile phones would play a big part in my Don,” Farhan told IANS.

Priyanka Chopra will play the role of Roma (played by Zeenat Aman in the original). This will be Priyanka’s first film with Shah Rukh as co-star.

As expected, Farhan’s ‘Don’ will also have the song Khai Ke Paan Banaras Wala. Composer trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy will compose the number. It remains to be seen whether any contemporary singer can match the fervor and spirit with which the inimitable Kishore Kumar sang the original number.
