Superstar Shah Rukh Khan has a unique way of relegating himself to the sidelines.
Even though it has been just days since Paheli released on the big screen, the movie is being dubbed as a success. The film has Rani Mukherjee playing a lovelorn village girl, while SRK plays the twin role of her husband and a ghost.
In an IANS interview, SRK said that Rani was truly the hero of the film and that he was a mere supporting actor.
“Rani Mukherjee is the hero of the film. I'm the supporting actor. Rather, supporting actors, since I've two roles,” SRK is quoted as saying.
Shahrukh also said that Paheli offered him the chance to work with an avant-garde director (Amol Palekar) for the first time.
“I've worked with Mani Kaul, Kundan Shah, Ketan Mehta... But being the producer in Paheli, this was the first occasion when I got to observe a so-called serious director so closely,” SRK told IANS.
When asked whether he had any differences with Paheli’s director Amol Palekar , SRK said differences were “natural” as they are two different people.
SRK said that even though he personally did not believe in ghosts, he likes the story of a woman falling in love with the ghost-lookalike of her husband.
“It is a simple story that entertains. It also makes you sit and think in the end,” he said.
In SRK’s opinion, Paheli will appeal to “those who are in love.”
