'Black' to open second Indian film festival at Stuttgart

Amitabh Bachchan - Rani Mukherjee starrer Black will be the opening film at the second Indian film festival -- ''Bollywood and Beyond'' to be held at Stuttgart, Germany from July 13 to 17.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali 's latest magnum opus, a drama about a deaf, mute and blind girl whose isolation can only be broken by an eccentric teacher was very well received when it released in the Netherlands before the IIFA weekend.

The ''German Star of India'', Germany's only movie award for Indian film, comprising 4,000 euros will be awarded at the festival's final event.

The Filmbüro Baden-Württemberg e.v. is organising the festival.

Some of the films which will be shown in different categories like Bollywood classics, documentaries, Indian shorts and animations, Dance, Song, Drama - Bollywood, the Big Picture, are mainstream films like Swades , Page 3 , Devdaas , Veer Zaara and the latest Parineeta , Mother India and ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ from the classics and other films like ‘Bollywood Remixed’, ‘Days and Night in an Indian Jail’, ‘Barbershop Politics’, Bengali films by Satyajit Ray ‘Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne’ and ‘Ghare Baire’ as tribute to the legendary filmmaker, One Dollar Curry , ‘Swades’, ‘In the Rhythm of a City’, ‘Sundar Nagari - The City Beautiful’, ‘Asian Vibes Bombay’, ‘Kaschmir - Zwischen den Göttern’, ‘Hari-Om’, ‘Shunyo E Bukey - Empty Canvas’, ‘Veer-Zaara’, ‘Katt Katt Kad Kaddu’, ‘The Day My God Died’, ‘Breaking the Future’, and ‘Heda Hoda’.

The short films from Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, are ‘Sanjh - The Dusk’, ‘Chaitra - In the month of March’, ‘Girni - Grinding machine’, ‘Bombay Summer’ and ‘The Unconscious’.

The other award winning short films are Oscar nominated Little Terrorist , ‘Equation, Cataract’, ‘Malli’, ‘Jananam’, ‘Ottam Nagaram Maya the Indian Princess’, ‘Happy Holi Maya!’, ‘6 Feet in 7 Minutes’.

The acclaimed films include Chokher Bali , national award winner ‘Shwaas – Breath’, ‘The Speaking Hand’, Black Friday , and My Brother Nikhil .
