Pakistani actress Meera has decided to move from Karachi to Dubai because she is “hurt and upset” by the behavior of her colleagues in the Pakistani film industry.
At the Pakistani National Film Awards ceremony on April 30, Meera was awarded the Ambassadress of Peace award by Pak Film Censor Board chairman Ziauddin. She was given this honor for being a part of the first Indo-Pak joint cine venture Nazar and for her contribution in promoting amity between India and Pak.
However, some of her peers in the industry believed she did not deserve the award and staged a walkout from the ceremony. As a gesture of protest, some actors even returned their awards and accused Ziauddin of favoring Meera.
“Hurt and upset” by the treatment meted out to her, Meera has decided to shift to Dubai.
Mid-Day quotes her as saying: “It’s a section of the Pakistani film industry that is jealous of my success. They are narrow-minded people who are intolerant of what I represent.”
Meera has reportedly bought a two-bedroom apartment and a car in Dubai. She has also applied for the residential permit there.
Meera, who is presently working in two Bollywood movies, says she is now looking forward to more work in the Hindi film industry. However, she said she would continue doing commercial ads and some movies in Pakistan, provided the offers are good.
