Salman denies underworld link, says allegations are 'absurd'

Bollywood star Salman Khan has denied the allegations that he has any connection with the underworld or local gangsters.

Salman is presently under lot of heat after the appearance of his wiretapped phone conversation with Aishwarya Rai in which he allegedly boasts of his ties with the underworld.

The transcripts of the conversation held in 2001 were published by a news daily on Thursday, evoking a strong response from right-wing political outfits that, as consequence, stalled the screening of Salman’s latest movie Maine Pyar Kyon Kiya in several theatres in central India.

In an interview published in The Times of India on Saturday, Salman dismissed the allegations of his links with underworld as “ridiculous” and “absurd”.

“This whole thing is so absurd. I heard the tape and I could not recognize my own voice,” Salman is quoted by the newspaper.

Salman added that even the female voice in the tapes did not sound like Ash’s.

“This is the most absurd charge anyone could level against me... it must be a sick joke,” Salman said.

Meanwhile, Sohail Khan too has come forward to defend his brother. He says the tapes purportedly having the conversation between an inebriated Salman and Aishwarya were “doctored”. He says the technology nowadays is so advanced that such things could be done easily in sound studios.

The film industry, although, has not come out in open to lend an unequivocal support to Salman, the industry folks, however, have demanded that the screening of Maine Pyar Kyon Kiya should not be stalled.

Even though the authenticity of the tapes is yet to be established, doubts are also being cast whether the tapes can at all be used as evidence in the court of law.
