Titled ‘Jodha Akbar’, Gowarikar says it will be a love story, a one which he always wanted to make, but did not want to repeat the conventional saga of parents against love-lorn kids.
Talking to a leading newspaper, Gowarikar said that four years ago, an actor friend, Hyder Ali, gave him the idea of Jodhabai and Akbar's marital romance. He was too busy then, but the idea stuck on.
The director of Lagaan and Swades added that for over a year he has been reading just about everything available on Jodhabai and Akbar. ‘Akbarnama’ has helped a lot but he is looking for an illustrated version.
On casting the gorgeous Ash in the lead role of Jodhabai, Gowarikar said, “Jodha has to be elegant, dignified and a classic beauty. Aishwarya fits the bill.”
And on Hrithik as Akbar, Gowarikar said, “He is a tremendous actor, lending himself to any character. He was brilliant in his last two films, Koi Mil Gaya and Lakshya . He has maintained his stardom but at the same time is experimenting with different roles. He has the stance and posture of a king. Hrithik will make a good Mughal emperor.”
Grand plans indeed and it would be great if Gowarikar succeeds in bringing Ash and Hrithik together on screen.
Ash and Hrithik are also acting together in the sequel of Dhoom .
