Even though Shah Rukh Khan ’s movie Paheli is being dubbed as a ‘successful failure’ at home, the film is having a good time at the box-office abroad.
Four weeks after its worldwide release, Paheli is closing in on $1.5 million mark at the US box-office, with its gross earnings approximating $1,409,498. The film is at 35th position on the US charts and has screenings on as many as 60 theatres there. Even at the UK charts, the film is holding at 15th position. Its performance in the US and UK is in contrast to its run in India where it has got critical acclaim but little box-office earnings.
Last week’s release Maine Pyar Kyon Kiya opened at No. 7 position at the UK box-office. The film (starring Salman Khan , Katrina Kaif , Sohail Khan and Sushmita Sen ) has got better-than-expected response so far, with the cumulative collection of £148,298 on 35 screens.
Anubhav Sinha’s Dus , released two weeks back, has slide down two places from 7 to 9 at the UK charts this week. However, the film has still grossed more money in two weeks’ run in the UK than Ram Gopal Varma’s Sarkar which has made £150,646 in three weeks since its release.
This week in the US, Asif Kapadia's movie ‘The Warrior’ starring Irfaan Khan has had a decent start and made $14,170 in its first week so far. Pradeep Sarkar’s Parineeta has made $783,913 in its six week run in the US.
