The role in which director Mahesh Manjrekar envisaged none other than Hollywood actress Julia Roberts went to the slinky, shapely, chatterbox vj Anusha. 
Since Anusha was born and bred in Australia and lived many years there, she was a perfect choice to play the role of a half Indian, half British girl Jenny in Viruddh. Apparently, Mahesh did not even take her audition. He met her, had a chat with her, explained to her the movie’s story and her role in it, and Anusha was simply game for it. “Being a vj, I have no fear of facing a camera. The only thought on my mind was whether I would be able to act. But then, who would let go of the chance of working with legends like Mr. Bachchan and Sharmila ji,” says this 23-year-old beauty. Anusha recalls how supportive and forthcoming Mr. Bachchan was on the movie’s set. “Although Bachchan ji is a superstar, he is so polite and humble. I was nervous doing my scenes with him, but he went out of his way to make me feel comfortable. He is truly a legend,” Anusha is quoted as saying. About Sharmila Tagore, Anusha says: “Sharmila ji was my guide and mentor on the sets. In one scene, I had to cry and I was not sure if I would be able to do it. But Sharmila ji gave me some tips. And, you will not believe, I cried real tears in that shot.” Anusha says she has no concrete plans to act full-time in films. “It all depends upon how the audience respond to Viruddh. If they like me, I would do more films. If not, I’m happy being a vj,” she says.
