After a string of offbeat films like Chameli and Silsiilay , Rahul Bose is now answering the call of his native Bengal.
His first Bengali release - Buddhadeb Dasgupta's 'Kaalpurush' - has hit theatres recently. Bose's fetish for things Bengali continues with Anirudh Roy Chowdhary's upcoming film 'Anuraran'.
It's been a decade since 'English August' and Bollywood still hasn't succeeded in getting Bose to put on his dancing shoes.
Not that he can't dance. He just finds it unrealistic.
Singing and dancing are okay when the script demands it - like when he played a band member in 'Jhankaar Beats' - but expecting him to twirl around trees and break into song at the drop of a hat would be a bit too much to ask, says Bose.
Does that mean acting in the usual Bollywood masala fare is a strict no-no? "Well, expecting me to sing and dance without a reason is impossible. The thing is that formula films in Bollywood are either black or white. It's the grey areas that I am interested in," says Bose.
"An ideal film for me would be something like 'Mr. and Mrs. Iyer’, which is a great example of a film which changes your life and entertains you at the same time," says the 38-year-old actor.
